Terms of Use

Effective date August 25, 2026

These Terms of Use govern your use of the App Trust Preview website, documentation, and related materials provided by Ihor July. They also explain important limits of the information presented by App Trust Preview. By using this website, you agree to these terms. The license for the Mac app is addressed separately below.

Mac App Store license

App Trust Preview is distributed through the Mac App Store and is licensed, not sold. Unless the App Store presents a custom license for the app, your license to use App Trust Preview is governed by Apple's Standard End User License Agreement. These Terms of Use do not replace or change that license. If these terms conflict with the applicable app license, the app license controls your use of the Mac app.

Security information is not a guarantee

App Trust Preview performs static analysis of supported files and presents security-related metadata in a readable report. Its reports are informational and are not a security certification, malware clearance, or legal or compliance advice.

  • Static analysis does not observe every action software may take when it runs.
  • Findings may be incomplete, outdated, inaccurate, or include false positives or false negatives.
  • A report applies only to the inspected file, app build, available macOS data, and analysis time.
  • The absence of warnings, or the presence of positive signals, does not guarantee that software is safe, trustworthy, or suitable for a particular purpose.

Your decisions and responsibilities

You decide whether to open, install, run, copy, export, archive, restore, share, or otherwise use inspected software. Review the original software, its source, and current platform guidance before making a security-sensitive decision.

Command-line output and exported reports may be used in automated workflows, but you are responsible for reviewing their suitability and for every action taken by your scripts, agents, tools, or other downstream systems. Keep appropriate backups before workflows that can move, install, archive, restore, or delete files.

Lawful use

You agree to use the website and App Trust Preview lawfully and responsibly.

  • Inspect, copy, export, archive, restore, or share software and data only when you have the right to do so.
  • Do not interfere with the website, bypass its security controls, introduce malicious code, or use it to violate another person's rights.
  • Comply with applicable laws, licenses, contracts, and organizational policies.

Third-party products and services

The website and reports may link to or work with third-party products and services, including Apple, VirusTotal, EasyDMG, App Archiver, and apps you select in the Open with other apps section. These products and services are independent, are not controlled by Ihor July, and are governed by their own terms and privacy practices.

Open with other apps passes the selected target to an app you chose. Compatibility does not guarantee availability, results, or safety. You are responsible for reviewing and approving every action performed by a third-party product.

Ownership and open-source software

App Trust Preview, this website, and their original content are owned by Ihor July or the applicable licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws. No rights are granted except those provided by the applicable app license, these terms, or an identified open-source license.

Open-source components, including AppTrustPreviewInspect, remain governed by their published licenses. If these terms conflict with an open-source license, that open-source license controls the covered component.

You retain any rights you already hold in files you inspect, reports you export, and personal notes you create. These terms do not claim ownership of that material.

Availability and changes to the product

Features, supported formats, integrations, documentation, and website content may be corrected, changed, suspended, or discontinued. Availability is not guaranteed, and documentation may describe a version different from the one installed on your Mac. The built-in command-line help reflects the options available in your installed version.

Warranty disclaimer

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the website and related materials are provided 'as is' and 'as available', without warranties of accuracy, availability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. Warranties for the Mac app are governed by its applicable license. Nothing in these terms limits a warranty or consumer right that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Ihor July will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, business, or opportunity, arising from use of the website, reliance on a report, inspected software, an automated workflow, or a third-party product or service.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where doing so is prohibited by applicable law.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated to reflect changes to App Trust Preview, the website, or applicable requirements. The current version and its effective date are published on this page. Changes apply prospectively from the stated effective date.

Applicable law

The applicable App Store license identifies the law governing your license to the Mac app. Your use of this website is subject to applicable law. Nothing in these terms deprives you of mandatory protections available under the law of your place of residence.

Privacy

The Privacy Policy explains how the Mac app handles inspected files and reports, how the optional helper works, and how this website uses privacy-friendly analytics.
